Hejsa, Pernille here from poorogrich this week to talk a little bit about mixing prints.  So ladies, let’s face it, when you get further along in your pregnancy it seems that all eyes zero in on your belly wherever you go.  I cannot count how many times I am asked a day when I am due or how far along I am.  Most people are pretty surprised when I tell them that I am in my 27th week, when I add that it is twins, they look relieved.  So although I love my burgeoning belly very much I decided that it wouldn’t hurt to do a little print mixing to bring people’s eyes elsewhere.  Enter in Old Navy, a champion of affordable, and sometimes surprisingly adorable summer clothes.

For those of you who are not quite as brave as my 3 year old daughter, Thea, who mixed prints way before it was cool, this little leopard and plaid combination is a nice way to get started.  I have to confess I have been living in these sandals, how adorable are they after all, so even though my feet have started to swell, I still manage to get them on.  And plaid button downs have been my friend for a long time as well but I guess I just never thought to wear them at the same time.

Movement and navy works well for me as I can shift easily from teaching, to running the school’s talent show to then Friday night dinner.  Throw on a blazer or a fun cardigan and you are set for the day.  Navy skirt can be found in many prints, as can the button-down, both from Old Navy.

I love how this skirt has the pocket detail and can even be worn under the belly with a fitted shirt.  Again, this is from their regular women’s section, not maternity.

  This gold-plated necklace from H&M is very 80’s and yet it just works.  One day, after we win the lottery, I will get a real gold one.  This model is sold out online but can probably be found at their store still.

 Finally, those sandals-  absolutely funky and fresh, and can be worn with pretty much anything, after all in my book leopard is a neutral.  These are sold out online but can still be found at your local store if you are quick.

So there you have it; mix some prints to bring attention to other parts of your body or just to stay on trend for spring and summer.  Until next time; stay funky.

So what does the fashion-conscious woman do when she can no longer close her pants due to her burgeoning bump? Why, create the infamous BellaBand and whole range of maternity basics, of course! Such is the case of Ingrid Carney who invented the genius, miracle worker, can’t-live-without BellaBand (if you’re preggo and don’t have AT LEAST one of these elastic waistbands, you’re crazy, um.. hello!? this is a maternity MUST HAVE!). But while you’re over there shopping, take a look at Ingrid & Isabel‘s new Spring 2012 line comprised of everyday pieces in silk modal blend with smart detailing such as tucking and draping to hug your bump in all the right places thanks to a bit of spandex here and there.  A line that’s as much comfy as it is stylish… just what the doctor ordered!

Aloha friends! It’s Maryam again from Milk-Friendly and I cannot believe I am already 30 weeks! I thought the time flew by with the second baby, but now with the third pregnancy and two active boys to keep after, the days and weeks are going by like a speed train.

Living way out on the North Shore of Oahu, (about an hour away from Honolulu), my chances of perusing the mall and having myself some leisurely shopping is at an all time low. With this and a growing belly, I’ve had to dig in the closet of mine and come up with new ways to wear what I already own. Re-mixing a single piece into a number of outfits has helped to keep diversifying my ensembles while keeping those dollar bills in my wallet.

Being pregnant and all, there’s no better way to create multiple outfits than with a nice elastic waisted dress/skirt. And yes, elastic seems to be a pregnant woman’s best friend, am I right? This nice little flexible waistline leads to more outfits than just one. Wear it on your natural hipline, above the bump or as a strapless dress for a three-for-one special.

I got this woven piece at H&M back in college, and it’s been worn as both a skirt and dress throughout the years (to be honest, when I bought it, I really didn’t know if it was being sold as one or the other.) Recently, I’ve loved to pull it up just over the baby bump to accentuate the growing belly in just the right place.

When we saw this image we couldn’t help but gasp… and sigh… and immediately start OBSESSING over this one perfect little white dress!! It just so happens that this pretty number is from one of our favorite maternity lines, More of Me maternity.   It’s the perfect-for-spring Marlow sheath dress.  This stunning mama-to-be has styled it à la Carrie Bradshaw by adding an oversized flower brooch and peep-toe frayed silk booties in nude. Add a high bun and a red lip… and you are ready for anything in this ensemble!

Hejsa, this is Pernille from poor og rich now the proud bearer of twins weighing in at 1 lbs 14 oz each!  So if you have ever peeked through my blog you may have noticed several of these pieces before, but isn’t that what being a chic pregnant mama is?  Learning how to use some of your favorite items even when your body seems to change by the minute?  So this week I want to highlight some of my go-to pieces, whether pregnant or not.

My absolutely beloved Cambridge Satchel Fluro in Neon Yellow.  This handmade handbag made it into my world last winter and we have been inseparable ever since.  This is not to sound like I am the kind of person that falls in love with a handbag; I never have before. But this one; it was love at first sight.  In fact so much so that I swore off shopping for a month to show my husband how committed I was to this bag.  Like I said, slightly obsessed, but totally worth it.  I have never received so many compliments on anything before except for maybe my growing belly.

Next up, my vintage Wrangler denim coat.  I think I have owned this coat for more than 10 years and it is one of those pieces that just gets better with time.  A little bit of fray here, a hole in the pocket there, and more and more fade to it.  This coat has taken me through many events and hasn’t failed me yet and again, this was found at my local thrift shop.  Supporting the local community and finding amazing things… sign me up!

Chuckies… need I say more.  These cool without trying too hard shoes can be used with so many looks.  I even wear these to school with some of my dressier pants and not just because I want to look like a hipster but because they just work in so many ways.  Next sneaker purchase for me will probably be a design your own pair of Chuck Taylors, that just takes personal style to a whole new level.

A great pair of sunglasses.  And by great, I mean cheap so that when I lose them or my daughter breaks them by playing movie star I don’t sob buckets.  These current ones are from H&M – do I ever not write about that store – and are just the right size and price for me.  I dream about Ray Bans but I live in cheap sunnies.  As for the rest of the outfit?  A simple dress, a layered cardigan and my go with me everywhere leggings.  Nothing too fancy but still sweet enough to be caught in.  And the best part; I stayed warm.

So you’ve been preggo for quite a while and getting ready to welcome your little one very soon.  Hear that? It’s baby shower time!! Beautiful mama-to-be Tamara was 8 months pregnant when she had her baby shower in LA, organized by her best friend Melissa (AKA founder & editor in chief of JNSQ mag).  We followed her around as she prepped for her special day and took some shots along the way.  We had designers ship over pieces that we believed would fit her maternity style, and were dying to see which ones she picked!

Saturday morning called for a relaxed but still pulled together ensemble, as Tamara was headed for a spa day.  For her first look, she pulled the Lara Jersey wrap trousers, Erica strapless maternity top and a luxurious silk cashmere Cleo maternity cardigan to graze her shoulders, all pieces by Vanessa Knox.  Later in the evening, as the future mama headed for lunch she opted for Isabella Oliver’s Stripe Ruched Dress in fun hot pink stripes, layered it with a neutral knit vest and finished the look with tan boots and matching leather bag.  For her big day, she picked a Vanessa Knox Lola Tank Dress in soft modal jersey and added an asymmetrical cardi.  Simple jewelry and hair made her look timeless and effortlessly chic!  When the celebrations were over, Tamara spent some time in her baby’s future nursery, daydreaming about what’s to come.  She wore The Afternoon Dress by HATCH Collection in always-perfect ponte fabric and A-line cut.

Style tips: For your own baby shower weekend, choose versatile pieces in a similar color family that you can mix and match effortlessly.  For the special day, pick a dress that makes you feel comfortable, stylish and pretty.  If you’re going to go for curve-hugging silhouettes like Tamara did, you can always wear a maternity shape wear piece such as the Blanqi long body-styler.  It will smooth out any (uninvited) curves, provide support for your back and hold your belly up. Our recommendation is to get it in pale nude so it goes discretely under everything! Smart detailing such as Isabella Oliver’s side rushing, Hatch perfect A-line cut or Vanessa Knox draping will go a long way in making you look your absolute best.  Happy Baby Shower!!

Hello again! It’s Christina from Proper Hunt here to talk about a great alternative to the classic cardigan.  With the weather having been unseasonably warm for the past month or so, I have been happily able to wear maxi dresses to accommodate my growing belly (now that I’m at 41 weeks, it’s totally full-grown).  But there have been days when the breeze has been just a tad too chilly not to wear something up top along with the maxi dress.  And that is where my button-down shirts have come in handy.

Not that I don’t appreciate or love my cardigans, it’s just that I wore them ALL the time throughout my 2nd trimester with leggings, so I wasn’t exactly dying to wear them again with my maxi dresses.  Plus, there’s something so sexy (yes, sexy) & casually chic about wearing a button-down shirt tied up.  It shows off your waist line, which I think is exactly what a pregnant woman should do because otherwise you end up looking like you’re wearing a tent … and no one wants to look like they’re wearing a tent.

Hejsa, this is Pernille from poorogrich coming to you with my latest obsession; the maxi dress.  Sure in my last pregnancy with my daughter Thea, I saw stylish women wearing them but I just could not find any that fit me the right way.  They were either too short (I am almost 5.11”), too strappy or just too much of something.  There are so many maxi dresses out there these days, and the best part is they are not all maternity either, which… yes… I admit it: finding great non-maternity pieces that work for my pregnancy style is kind of an obsession of mine.

Being pregnant with twins is also a challenge in itself.  At my last visit, my amazing OB told me that they would soon have to start measuring me horizontally, not vertically… those babies sure are growing.  I still chuckle at that.  The truth is, pants may at some point just not be too much of a comfortable option for me unless I want to keep buying bigger and bigger sizes, and who wants to spend all of that money?  So instead my plan has been hatched; this pregnancy will be all about dresses and perhaps even a skirt or two.  Therefore, I am delighted to show you how I style a striped maxi dress.  Oh, and stripes, by the way are another obsession but more about that another day.

I have several of my favorite ideas happening here- a maxi dress, this one is from Gap but I found a similar one from Rachel Pally here.  The rest of my outfit: A navy blue blazer from H&M, a basic grey t-shirt, a patent leather belt like this one from Cole Haan, and some fun accessories.

The necklace was from Forever 21 last year, but they have a new 3 curved one here that I may just have to get now that I look at it.

The earrings hail from my native country of Denmark, they’re from Pilgrim.  I have yet to find anyone that beats their prices and the fact that are free of nickel.

Well, Aloha all you chic Mamas! It’s Maryam here again from Milk-Friendly. If you follow along on my blog, you know that my aim is to help moms keep their style mojo throughout the days of breastfeeding and beyond. I know firsthand that it’s not as easy as you would think. It wasn’t until my second pregnancy that I finally started to figure out the ropes and prepare my wardrobe before the baby was born.

Easy access is key, and one of the quickest ways to breastfeed a hungry newborn is to be wearing what I call an “Easy-Open” top- these are anything with buttons, a zipper or in a wrap style. My favorite is a button down top, and with the shirtdress being a chic, current fashion trend, us Mamas are in luck.

During our maternity days, these dresses can also double as tunic/tops as they just make it over our growing belly. You can pair it with anything from skinny jeans, leggings or some maternity shorts like the ones I grabbed at Target.  Just undo a few of the bottom buttons, make a knot and you’re good to go.

Once baby comes, you can continue wearing it as a top, or wear it as a dress on it’s own, or with some tights or leggings. A super simple way to make your maternity purchases count as they work double duty in your days to come with your special little bundle.
